Your Community. Your Court. Your Choice.

Integrity. Fair. Experienced.

Joy Degenhart is running for the judicial seat of Texas’ 388th District Court as a Democratic candidate. When elected, Joy will bring consistency, impartiality and integrity back to the Court that serves many El Paso families, positively impacting our community by restoring respect and professionalism to the 388th Court.

The 388th District Court handles cases of family law pertaining to divorce, child custody, and protective orders. Often one or both parties come to the court at a deeply vulnerable moment in their lives and deserve to be served with respect, impartiality, and justice according to the laws of Texas.

Why I Am Running for Judge

The Community of El Paso deserves access to a Judge that will listen to the facts of their case and make decisions that are both in the best interest of the children and parties involved and that are also consistent with the laws of Texas. I believe in the laws of Texas because they ensure consistent and fair rulings, reasonable expectations, and mutual understanding between litigants, litigators, and the judiciary.

A judge’s decisions should be rooted in integrity, impartial, and based on the evidence of a particular case, independent of personal opinion, emotional state, or bias.

I have extensive experience working vigorously to protect domestic violence victims, secure adequate support for in-need parents, and protect the visitation rights of loving parents.  I have observed firsthand the pain, distress, and damage a biased and irrational ruling can have on the lives of real people, fellow parents and El Pasoans.

Joy’s Pledge to El Paso Families

I pledge to maintain a courtroom culture of respect, integrity, and fairness where litigants and their representatives can expect to be treated equally and given rulings consistent with professional and ethical conduct, rooted in the laws of Texas; to address the needs and best interests of all parties and their children; to continue to seek best practices in family law and stay current in my continuing legal education; to serve impartially; and to always keep in mind the profound and real impact that the decisions from the Court have on the lives of El Paso families and community members.

A Judge should follow the law and not make up their own based on his or her personal bias.
